The Pirani Gauge: The Industry Standard for Vacuum Measurement The Pirani gauge is the most widely used instrument for vacuum pressure measurement. Invented by Marcello Pirani in 1906, this technology utilizes a resistive hot filament to provide accurate readings. These robust sensors are designed to measure pressure ranges from atmospheric pressure down to 0.0001 mBar.

Penning & Cold Cathode Gauges: Robust High-Vacuum Solutions For deeper vacuum requirements, Penning (or cold cathode) gauges are the industry standard. These instruments are designed for high-vacuum measurement, typically ranging from 0.01 mBar down to 0.1 uBar. Known for their exceptional durability, Penning gauges are incredibly robust and reliable—provided they are operated within their recommended pressure levels to avoid contamination or electrode wear.  

A thermocouple is an electrical device consisting of two dissimilar electrical conductors forming an electrical junction. A thermocouple produces a temperature-dependent voltage as a result of the thermoelectric effect, and this voltage can be interpreted to measure temperature. Thermocouples are a widely used type of thermal gauge but equally the effect can be used as a measure of vacuum.

Bourdon Vacuum Gauges: The Standard for Mechanical Measurement The Bourdon gauge is perhaps the most recognizable instrument in the industry. As a purely mechanical device, it provides both measurement and a clear visual display in a single unit. These gauges are ideal for monitoring vacuum levels from atmospheric pressure down to approximately 1 mBar. For applications requiring higher precision, we also supply barometrically compensated versions with rugged housing, offering high accuracy to within 1%. 

The Spinning Rotor Gauge: The Standard for Vacuum Metrology The Spinning Rotor Gauge (SRG) is a high-precision instrument that measures vacuum by determining the viscous drag on a magnetically levitated spinning ball. Because this drag is directly proportional to the molecular density within the chamber, the SRG offers unparalleled stability. It is the preferred choice for the calibration and metrology of other high-vacuum sensors, including cold cathode and hot-filament ionization gauges.
